Al
Maha Desert Resort is an idyllic, exclusive oasis, set within a
25-square kilometre desert conservation reserve - a place where a
commitment to service and total guest satisfaction is underlined by a
ratio of three staff to every one of the sumptuous guest suites -
ensuring attentive and personalised service 24-hours a day.
Built
in the style of a traditional Bedouin encampment the main building
is testimony to a way of life which has not changed in thousands of years. |
 |
Here,
guest areas are adorned with traditional artifacts and precious antiquities.
The
Legend of Al Maha (Arabic for Arabian oryx) describes a magical
place where water flowed from a rock, a perpetual spring fed by
ancient underground lakes. |
Matchless
Arabian hospitality, immaculate service and hedonistic levels of
comfort are key to Al Maha's appeal. Banal concepts such as check-in
simply do not exist in this fairytale world. Instead guests are
greeted personally and offered the traditional welcome of dates,
coffee and fruit juice before being shown to the privacy of their suites.
Tented
ceilings, hand woven carpets, rich brocades and Arabian antiques
render each Bedouin style suite a work of art. Floor-to-ceiling
windows frame endless views whilst wrap-around wooden sundecks have
private temperature controlled plunge pools in which to cool off and
contemplate life. Fabulous stone bathrooms are equipped with Jo
Malone goodies and swimming pool sized baths; whilst easels, pastels
and charcoal await any artist inspired by the unforgettable beauty of
the desert.

The
cuisine of Al Maha is a sophisticated fusion of Arabic with
Mediterranean influences and although dinner on one's own sundeck
beneath a thousand stars is irresistibly romantic, the elegance of
the dining room and atmosphere of a table set amidst the dunes are
wonderfully tempting alternatives.
For
those who think of the desert as little more than oceans of lifeless
sand, eco-safaris from Al Maha are a revelation. Rare species are
being reintroduced to the resort's twenty-five square kilometres and
expert field guides are on hand to locate oryx, desert fox, gazelle
and an unexpected profusion of flora. More adventurous guests can try
their hand at the ancient arts of falconry and archery. Alternatively
experience the exhilaration of a camel safari or thrill to the
adrenalin rush of careering over shifting dunes in 4x4 vehicles or on
fleet footed Arab thoroughbreds.
In
the 21st Century, peace and tranquillity are rare commodities. At Al
Maha they are in abundant supply in surroundings of breathtaking
beauty and comfort. A sanctuary for man and beast alike, Al Maha is
the perfect refuge in which to soothe the soul and refresh the body. |
